The Fritz Zwicky Foundation FZF
(Fritz Zwicky Stiftung FZS)

The Fritz Zwicky Foundation, established on 23 January 1973, holds and manages Fritz Zwicky’s entire estate, which is catalogued and archived in the Glarus cantonal library (Landesbibliothek Glarus). The Foundation’s objective is to conserve and manage Fritz Zwicky’s lifework, and to promote morphological research.

Fritz Zwicky (1898-1974)

Fritz Zwicky was born on 14 February 1898 in Varna (Bulgaria), a citizen of Mollis (today Glarus Nord, canton of Glarus, Switzerland). From 1925, Zwicky worked at the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena (California). The prediction and discovery of and research on supernovae, the compiling of an extensive and comprehensive catalog of clusters of galaxies, a catalog of selected compact galaxies and of post-eruptive galaxies, and the development of morphology are the more prominent projects which place Fritz Zwicky among the most important scientists of the 20th century.
